'Bling-bling' will soon be entered into the Oxford English Dictionary. 'Bling-bling' is from a hip-hop jargon then a slang. It was coined in 1999 in a song "Bling-Bling" by B.G., it means big showy jewelry. It "sets off alarms at airports and goes bling when it collides with other bling." BTW, it's not just as a noun, it's a verb and adjective! (source: Netscape.com) From MTV's Headline: 'Bling Bling' Added To Oxford English Dictionary The next time you and your pals coin a slang term to describe your latest bejeweled accessories, don't bet on keeping it exclusive. The linguistics "gangstas" over at the Oxford English Dictionary aren't "new jacks" to the latest "def" lingo.Posted by Antony at May 19, 2003 9:27 PM >> more May 2003 entries. |
