“Linux is great!â€

Has Microsoft given up on the anti-Linux FUDfests, and jumped on the
open source software bandwagon? Did a pig just fly past my window?

Judge for yourself with this article over @ Silicon.com . . .

Funny you should say that..

nope, MS hasnt given up.. its just another attack.. especially these sections:

Red Hat’s decision to end support for its free software and the Novell-SuSE link-up have put the last nail in the coffin of the free software model, the Redmond behemoth believes - even going so far as to speculate that the move from free to paid-for open source software is a validation of Microsoft’s way of doing business and the only way the open source movement can survive.

linux will overcome the FUD

Postby jubalj » Sat 15 Nov, 2003 6:50 pm

FUD is bad, but i think, irrespective of FUD, opensource software will defintely prevail eventually.. Opensouce is perhaps more like an avalance, building up momentum as time goes by. I'd say that in the next 5-10 years 10% of computers would be running an opensouce OS and in 10-20 years possibliy around 30%.. And in 50 years when people look back at the history of software, opensource will be seen as a major turning point!

pretty bold huh? considering that most ppl live to eat their own predictions about computers.. 8-) On the otherhand, its cool to know that unlike most great changes all this will happen in our lifetimes, it was only ~20 short yrs ago that Mr Gates sat in an IBM board room and made history..

Thus spake the [foolish] optimist,

Open source won't take over totally for quite some time, and Microsoft isn't hoarding cash for no reason. They WILL need that $51bn USD one day, they know that all well and good. They're fully taking advatage of being as profitable as ever, I don't blame them.
