??czsrv.exe

Postby MMottster » Sun 16 Sep, 2007 1:23 am

Today, my computer has had multiple issues. I think I have fixed them, or at least most of them. After restarting I get the following "c:\winnt\czsrv.exe or one of its components cannot be found. Make sure the path and file name are correct."

Does anyone know what this is? And How do I correct it?

Thanks,
MMottster

I can't seem to find any English-language results, but [tt]czsrv.exe[/tt] does appear in a couple of HijackThis logs, most notably one for a "Carlton Dialer".

If [tt]czsrv.exe[/tt] can't be found, then there's a good chance that the threat's already been eliminated, and there's a remaining startup entry for it that needs to be cleared out. It looks like you're running Windows 2000, so go grab a copy of msconfig. Open it and go to the Startup tab, and under the Startup Items column look for a "czsrv" or "czsrv.exe". If it's there, uncheck its entry to the left, hit OK, and reboot to see if that clears up your problem.

CZSRV.exe

This error is a result of registry entries left behind by the "Carlton Dialer". To remedy your problem under Win 2000,

Click Start -> Run

Type: regedit

Click Edit -> Find

Type: czsrv.exe

you will find it in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]

Backup your registry!!!!

Click Registry -> Export Regestry File...

Save the registry to your desktop

Now delete the entry "shell"="Explorer.exe %windir%\\czsrv.exe

Restart your computer and the error should not come up

If all is well you can delete the Registry backup on your desktop.

Hope this helps

Mort
