'Ho Ho Ho' is offensive!? well, political correctness

Postby Antony » Sat 08 Dec, 2007 10:10 am

Recently, Australia's Santa recruitment firm Westaff banned Santa Claus from saying 'Ho Ho Ho' to children. They say 'Ho Ho Ho' is derogatory to women, and might frighten children. The 'correct' term should be 'Ha Ha Ha' instead.

Is political correctness gone too far?

What do you think?

I wouldn't term this as political correctness so much, Antony. I would term it outright stupidity.

In my opinion, "Ho Ho Ho" as said by Santa Claus isn't going to be readily interpreted as the slang "ho". This seems more like a premeditated way for a couple of people to make trouble.

It has definitely gone too far. There is nothing wrong with "Ho Ho Ho" being said by Santa.

One Santa Claus was sacked on 5th December for saying 'Ho Ho Ho'. John Oakes, 70, employed by Westaff and working for Myer Carins was sacked for the orders he defied. He said 'Ho Ho Ho' and sang Jingle Bells to children.

The Daily Telegraph wrote:The word "ho" is American slang for prostitute.

Both Myer and Westaff denied the accusation.

I am really starting to wonder about this world that we are living in today, I really think that no one has anything better to do then come up with stupid rules and laws in order to make money off of someone else, like the mcdonalds law suit over the coffee being to hot.. its retarded
