-Lent a hand- missing 2GB. using windows xp...

Postby Mastah » Sun 27 Apr, 2003 3:49 pm

i seem to be missing 2GB. of diskspace when i check the properties
of my computer when switching over to Dos i have my space back..
and no, it's not a swapfile.
And XP is slowing down my system to the speed of a snale, slow startup,
slow shutting-down, slow loading from harddisk, etc. could my mcafee
virusSoftware be a doing this? or what should i be checking out..
Could someone give me a hand... :?:

If you suspect McAfee, you can disable it from the start up, if it is a normal installation. I am not sure how the inline version works, but I can be pretty bad. Which version of McAfee, and engine do you have? Try this freeware PC Inspector File Recovery. It may give you some clue on the 2GB loss. http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm

Try running MSCONFIG and removing non essential items that load at startup (ICQ, MSN chat etc)

You might also try the TweakXP website, they have a good database of tweaks to speed up Windows XP.
