(v2)Backup Mozilla preference, settings (and its extensions)

Hi

Question Time
- How to backup preferences and settings and its extensions in Mozilla? So after I formatted my Windows, I don't need to re-set every setting, every extension setting (and download each extension again)

It will not help you any by asking the same question again. Why don't you check the mozdev.org page? You will see that there are many people involved in the different projects. There is no easy answer to your questions. You will have to do some homework, first.

To Fulvio,
> It will not help you any by asking the same question again.
Hopefully it is not locked at this stage. I could explain the reasons to you.
The original question is being locked.
That's why I have to re-send.
(PS: There are some other not-really-duplicate posts being locked but I think I have a valid reason for posting it. Anyway, maybe I don't know much about the ruling system here.)

If I am forgetful/careless enough and have posted it more than once, please tell me. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

> Why don't you check the mozdev.org page?
I would like to have a complementary solution. If a manual backup is needed for every single extension (some may not have at all, frankly speaking), and I have to re-set the main mozilla settings, it would be a pain.

And I have no ideas how to backup a pool of extensions (so I don't need to install them individually when I reformat my drives).

You are usually asked when you installed extentions where and how you want it. But, if not asked it will be as .jar or .xpi file in the Chrome folder of the Profile (not of the Program). In fact, I have a number of extentions as .xpi files, all in one location. I don't expect to reformat my drive so often that I will have to look around for the files. They are more likely to be incompatible with an upgrade. I am finding with with Moz1.8a5.

Wai_Wai,
I use this to backup my preferences and so far it has worked for me for when I had to reinstall Mozilla once. It backs up pretty much everything. However, what Fulvio said was correct in that where you save the extension makes a difference. If you save each extension when you install them to your profile instead of global, I THINK it saves the extension there also. When you run Mozbackup, I THINK it backs up the extensions too. You'll have to give it a try and see it this is what you are looking for.
