1 exceeds the number of menu layers

Postby KD » Sun 31 Aug, 2003 9:23 am

Hi

I've been using Netscape 7 and 7.1 now for about a month and the only problem I have is that whenever I log in to www.dixons.co.uk I cannot use the left-handed menu bar as I get a message saying JavaScript application - 1 exceeds the number of menu layers. This is not a problem in internet Explorer.

Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?

This is not a bug within Netscape or other Mozilla based browsers. It is a fact a known bug within
the JavaScript coding of all retail websites run by the Dixons Retail Group, not just Dixons.co.uk.
The websites of Currys.co.uk, TheLink.co.uk and PCWorld.co.uk are also affected by this issue.

There is an existing Tech Evangelism bug (#88596) filed at BugZilla regarding this problem,

Until the Dixons Retail Group actually get around to fixing their broken JavaScript menus, then I
would suggest you take the money you want to spend, to one of Dixons' rivals, such as Comet.

BTW . . . The aforementioned Tech Evangelism bug was on the 30th June . . . in 2001!

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

In case the message from DJGM is not clear, IE just shrug its collective shoulders, and lets the error through, while Netscape does not, and the site people don't care about NS users.

Thanks U guys.

I've already written a nice e-mail to their customer services department telling them to get a move on and fix the problem. Don't think it will go anywhere, but hey.
