2 netscape 7 problems : helper applications, error alerts

Postby Zyphrus » Thu 16 Jan, 2003 12:37 pm

Hi,
I don't know if I'm posting in the right forum. If not please give me a link to a forum where my questions might get answered.

1) I want to open *.java files and *.jar files using external applications. When I click on a link to a *.java file I want my java editor to be started as a standalone program and I want it to display the file. Similar with *.jar. I want jar files to get downloaded or executed as java programs. what I don't want is to see a jar file displayed within nescape, especially not as if it were text. What exactly would I have to put in the different boxes when I want a file to be sent to an external application ( specific example : tell me exactly how to display *.java files in the Win98 notepad (that's not my java editor ;-) ).

2) I never want to see an alert message again. Specifically, the "connection was refused when attempting to contact <some web address>" message (the ebay website uses this message to test how long my patience lasts, and it's decreasing ...) and the "the page you are trying to access is empty" message (cannot remember the exact words, but when the forums at sun are busy I have to click almost every link twice and I get the stupid message on the first try). How do I switch error message boxes off or turn them into text displayed in the status bar?

Thanks in advance for any answers
