2008 U.S. Presidential Election

This is an informal, unscientific poll, to see what the members of the SillyDog community think about the U.S. Presidential election and whom they would support.

The news coverage has been given unfair publicity to Democratic Party when it was the case of (potential) first female US President vs (potential) first black US President.

Here in Australia, John McCain got very little mentions.

News clip regarding Obama's speech in Berlin. Not really on what he said there. ;-)

“[Barack Obama] is as popular in Europe, as George Bush is unpopular.â€

the republican party is pretty scary, i can't believe in 2008 there are people who actually truly believe that abortion is wrong, even in the case of rape and incest and it's ok to teach children "creationism" in schools. amazing.

Well, the abortion is a religious issue in my opinion. And religion is a very tough topic. You certainly don't want to offend anyone when you want the votes.

Our church (the Eastern Orthodox Church) teaches that abortion is wrong, Dr Lobster. I believe the teachings of the Church not the morality of the times. I don't foist my beliefs on others; instead I respect the rights of others to hold to their own views.

Furthermore I will say that my wife and I are slowly moving over to the McCain/Palin camp after being supporters of Obama. One of the main reasons to cause this shift is the media attacks on Sarah Palin. The media has tried to dig up as much dirt as possible on this woman and frankly, it's beginning to disgust me. If the fifth estate had any brains at all (and I'm coming to the conclusion that they don't) they would stick to the issues and cease the juvenile slanders against Palin. The issues are the economy, the war in Iraq and health care (as far as I'm concerned). These are things that brought us to the Obama camp early on. But as I've already stated, our support is being eroded almost daily by the moronic media witch-hunts.

but do you really want another four years of a republican government? look at the rich/poor divide. considering that america is supposed to be the amongst the most progressive societies in the world, it's like a a 3rd world country in places, the racial divide and the distribution of wealth is just appalling.

the problem with palin is that she is an idiot; she holds views that most people with any degree of a brain would find abhorrent. she is so right wing she could almost double for a character from the simpsons.

how can anybody take a women seriously who claims that the war on iraq is 'gods will' or that an oil pipeline through alaska is 'gods will' when in the next breath she says abortion is wrong? how can it be ok to kill an iraqi "insurgent" but not ok to kill an unborn child which is the product of rape?

I can see from your comments that there is a great divide between us. When you say that Sarah Palin is an idiot, I disagree. You further color your remarks by saying that most folks with a degree of a brain would.... in short, if I were to disagree with your views on this matter, I do not have a brain. Thus, the discussion ends there. I refuse to slander you but I also refuse to allow myself and my views to be ridiculed. I believe in a fair and decent discussion without resorting to ad hominem attacks on one's opponent. We've always gotten along in the past, so I'll withdraw from this discussion if you don't mind. I wish you well.

I am very glad to hear that.
Personally, I've experienced some extremely religious person who are either very faithful or stubborn (depends on which way you look at) in terms of accepting new scientific discovery and trying to change other people.
(It is quite fun to debate with those people, if you are prepared.)
