2nd internal drive connection

Postby mpnow » Tue 26 Sep, 2006 4:41 pm

I have a Powermac G5 2ghz.

I have installed a second internal hard drive (exactly the same as the one that came with the machine) and I also have a Lacie external hard drive.

I have just installed a music software called ProTools. I want to save all the audio sessions I make using it to the 2nd internal hard drive, but it will not let me.

I can save them to the first internal hard drive, or the external, but not the second internal.

All that is on the second internal hard drive is the OS9 applications files.

What do I have to do? (if the anser is 'slave it' someone will have to explain what that is and how I do it - espaciially the latter)

After you installed the second hdar drive into your Power Mac G5, could you see the hard disk on your Desktop (OS X)?

Yes. Still can. Alongside internal drive number 1 and the external Lacie i have just installed.

Internal hard drive number 2 has an applications folder on it called (Mac OS 9). I am not sure how that happened.

For a long time I had used it to store video files.
I have just copied them to the external and deleted them from internal drive number 2 in order to free up its space for the aduio files from my Pro Tools sessions that I want to save on it. But it won't let me.
Even when I click and drag something to disk 2 a box opens saying 'it cannot be modofied'. In order to bypass this I need to type in my administrators password.

I assume the "hard drive number 2" is the one you added into your Power Mac G5.

From what you described, it seems to be there were things in the second hard disk before you install it. Then it's possible the permission issue (from previous installation).

Are you able to change the permission (UNIX file system thing) in the 2nd hard disk.

I presume so, yes.
I bought it, I installed it, I am the only one who uses it and it is here in front of me. I just need to know what I have to do.
