4.79 email Inbox advertising in lower screen. Can I stop it?

Postby Joe Bryant » Mon 25 Nov, 2002 12:07 am

I'm using Netscape 4.79. When I open my mail Inbox, I get advertising from Netscape on my bottom screen before my email comes through. Is there any way to stop the advertising from coming on the screen. Thanks, Joe Bryant joebryant@tcon.net .

Put this in your prefs.js file. backup first:

Code: Select all
user_pref("mailnews.start_page.enabled", false);

I've tried the above, but it doesn't work. I cut and pasted it at the bottom when I edited the prefs.js file. i.e., I am still getting the advertisements when I open my mail inbox in Netscape 4.79. Is there possibly something that I'm doing wrong? Thanks, Joe

Joe, I do not advise the Message Preview, and I think that you must be seeing the ad on the lower part of the right hand side of the mail, below the headers. If that is the case, click and hold on the thingy on the diving bar, and carry it to the bottom. If you saw the ads there, you will not see them again. By the way, I have not seen any ads since 4.51, so I may be incorrect about my diagnoses, but whatever I do works. I will also possible viruses from executing something or other, but I think that there is little to fear there. I just want to see as many headers as I can, and a preview is useless.
