7.0 to 7.02 question

Postby Markalark » Tue 06 May, 2003 7:58 pm

Hi,

A while back I marked the "registry" file located in the Mozilla folder as "Read Only" to prevent it's out-of-control growth. My question is, when I upgrade from 7.0 to 7.02 will this "registry" file need write permission for the new version?

Thanks

It is my opinion that registry.dat should be able to be written to while installation takes place. I suspect that registration data is also stored in this cancerous file. I always change registry.dat to "normal" while I uninstall one version and install another. I then, after registration, change registry.dat back to "read only" to stop its growth.

Some people are under the mistaken impression that the registry.dat growth problem was solved in Netscape 7.0x. This is sadly not the case. Mozilla, I believe, addressed this problem somewhere down the road.

I always recommend Ramona's Netscape Solutions for her Clean Install and Custom Install instructions.

How does one change the registry.dat file to read only to prevent its uncontrolled growth?

When moving to DJGM`s Pigeon Edition, I experienced some difficulties with "locked" registry.dat during instalation. When changing atribute to normal, everything went smoothly.
