Why would you delete the directory? I don't think that you can permanently delete the entire folder, but if it is deleted, you will have nothing left. Almost everything is compatible, in fact too compatible between Netscape and Mozilla. So, the same profile should not be used for both Netscape and Mozilla.
Also,l had minimal problem with the Resources leak in Netscape7.1.

I was keeping my tabs to to a maximum of four, and had the minimum number of programs in the startup.
Having cable, I could have been suscptible to a lot of problems, since I could use hoggish programs at the same time. With Win98, I never experienced the reported problems, although, following the resources there was a slow and steady drop over several hours.
I used to start with about 85% remaining resources, dropping to 55-60%. Running a music program like Music Match dropped me below the safe 40%, but was ok after closing it.
I had only my Antivirus and Firewall at the startup, plus the basic Windows stuff. The problem is that most people don't realize how many programs are in the startup. NS7.1 has problems, but not as serious as they can be made. I had 350MHz processor, and 128MB RAM, upgraded later to 256. Never had a problem.
