7.02 Netscape mail sending problem...

Postby artie » Sun 28 Dec, 2003 7:49 pm

After recently getting a computer with Windows XP, I tried to incorporate my old Netscape mail program into my new one at which point I could no longer send mail.

When I deleted the mail account, and re-entered it as new, I encountered the same problem.

Clicking on the Advanced tab in the outgoing mail settings shows 3 mail servers all with the same information and all set as the default. When I delete the mail account and check the advanced tab, it now shows:

(default)

(default)

I am able to click on them and the "add" or "edit" buttons are available (and when I click on "edit", they are both blank), however, i am unable to delete either of them.

When I create my account over, they both show up with my send settings and they both show as the default.

Help please, if you can.

Thanks.

Artie,
there are a number of possibilities, but most important is not to concentrate on the Outgoing mail settings, but rather on the account name Advanced button. That button will give you options to send with a SMTP other than default, if necessary. Another important point is in the Outgoing mail settings. You may have some contradiction if the Server name is matched with an username and password not belonging to it. Just uncheck the box next to the username. Make sure that the SMTP is correct. No problem if it is not. You can always add another one.
