7.1 Netscape: What is the best security Antivirus to use?

Postby GramiOR » Wed 09 Feb, 2005 1:26 pm

I currently have Norton Antivirus 2004 and required to update on the 15th, but not sure if this would be the best update for Netscape 7.1/ Any suggestions or has anyone experienced problems etc that would be of interest to subject.? Running win. 98 :?

I had a variety of problems with Norton AV on my Win98 desktop. I currently use AVG 7 for both my desktop and my laptop. It is an excellent AV and takes far less in system resources than does Norton. It is easy to set up, does updates automatically. There is a free version and a pay-for version. I use the pay-for version because it has more configurations that can be done. It scans both incoming and outgoing email in Netscape/Mozilla -- for any POP 3 account. I do not think you can go wrong with AVG. One other thing. There are a number of very good free AV's available. Just do a search and make your choice.

Windows 7, Norton Internet Security, Malwarebytes, Spywareblaster for my desktop and Avast for the laptop, user of Chrome and Firefox 9.01.

I forgot to mention one thing. If you are looking for a total security package with a firewall, etc., you can add Sygate which is a free firewall and is excellent as well as other software firewalls.AVG does not have a firewall included. Or, if you have a router, they usually have a firewall built in.

AVG7 Free is nice, but I can't really reccommend the professional version when other scanners like Avast and NOD32 are out there.

Since I spent too much for Pro versions which were a pain in the neck, at best, I would go for AVG7. I am also trying this crazy open source Clamwin. I have about 15GB on my hard drive, and Clamwin was still plodding along after almost four hours. But, it is very thorough, and it coexists with AVG7. I use it to scan individual folders, and get a second opinion.
I tried Sygate and Zone Alarm firewalls, free, of course, and both were relatively trouble free. I am using Zone Alarm, at present.

Thanks for all the suggestions from everyone, It's nice to know we can ask questions without feeling like total dummies, as most folk here are far and above my comprension and I appreciate all the time spent helping me. :)
I'll give it a try with AVAST and let you know later how it all went.
