7.1 Profile missing

Postby neonlady » Mon 24 Nov, 2003 10:41 am

I have been having some strange action from my netscape program lately. The most recnt one is that I can't log in from my rofile manager, says that the directory cant be found, choose another profile. The other profiles work fine. I am running Mac OSx2.8 and Netscape 7.1 Last week it was that it lost my bookmarks and email addresses, yet the otherprofiles still had theirs. I am trying to set -up a dependable browser/website so I can trast aol altogether (just am maintaining my email address now) Any help would be appreciated!

Have you tried looking for the random number_.SLT folder associated with the missing profile? If the "profilename"\_.SLT folder and files for the missing profile still exist, what you can try is, run the Profile Manager and create a "new" profile, in the EXACT same location and with the EXACT SAME PROFILENAME as the one that contains the _.SLT folder assoicated with the missing profile.

From the Netscape 7 release notes:
http://wp.netscape.com/eng/mozilla/ns7/relnotes/7.html

Setting Profiles

(Mac OS X) To open the Profile Manager, press the Option key and double-click the Netscape icon.

(Unix and Mac OS X) If Netscape is running, and you run another instance of Netscape to create a new profile, that new profile will disappear from the Profile Manager. Workaround:
Before creating another profile, quit all instances of Netscape before launching the Profile Manager.
Location of Profiles

Mac OS X ~\Library\Mozilla

I'm only slightly familiar with Mac OSX (my husband has an Ibook with 10.1.5 / Netscape 7.0) so if you need further help and no one else answers in this forum, try the Mac OS forum (here at SillyDog)

profile missing

Thanks for the feedback. I have tried creating a new profile, but to no avail. It tells me that a profile of the same name exists. I have searched for a folder with .slt and my profile. There is one under my profile name. By the code must be corruptor something, as it will not recognize it.
I will go to the OS section. Thanks again for your response!

Judging from your error message, iyt sounds like you moved the profile out of the path that Netscape had set for it.... I found this in groups.google:
=============copy/paste===============
> Uh-oh. I found the *.slt folder. I moved it to desktop. I rebooted the
> computer, and when I tried to start Netscape, I got the error message window
> from the Net Profile Manager when I tried to click on the default profile
> option:
> "Netscape cannot use the 'default' profile because the directory containing it
> cannot be found. Please create one. Please choose another profile or create one."
===============end c/p=============

The solution in that case was to move the profile *.SLT folder back to the original location....

LIke I said I'm not too familiar with the Mac so if that doesn;t help, try the Mac OS forum. Be sure to give details on what led up to the problem

Good luck,
