7.1 uninstall

Postby babypossum » Sun 26 Oct, 2003 6:30 pm

:( When I downloaded 7.1, the installation must not have been complete. Therefore, using the Control Panel, I uninstalled it.

Along with its tree, it remains shown in Program Files. The uninstall folder is empty.

Shall I just delete from Program Files?

Is 702 streamline a viable option to 7.1? I am not familiar with it.

Thanks for help...

Yes, delete any remaining folders dealing with Netscape. Do not delete any profiles unless you do not have anything saved like address book, bookmarks, etc. that you want to be able to use again. I think Ramona has a guide of sorts as to what registry entries to delete.

7.1 reinstall

:P Thank you.

What, where, who is Ramona?

I am wondering that, after I delete the NS 7.1 Program Files,
I can just run a System Scan with Norton System Works 2003 and the appropriate 7.1 registry keys will be found and I can do the "fix".

You can delete the remainder of 7.1, if you have a backup of the PLugins folder. In 7.1, you will have three parts which must work together. Only the program, equivalent to the 4.x Communicator is removed when you uninstall. Just as in 4.x which leaves behing its Users profiles, 7.1 will leave the Profile untouched. This folder can give all sort of problems. And, to further complicate the issue, a GRE folder will be unscathed in the Program Files|Common Files|mozilla.org. In the case of NS7.1 and Moz1.4, they would use the same GRE folder, and whichever program was installed last would appear to have an incomplete installation. Basically, it is NS7.1 or Moz1.4, not both.
After saying this, why did you think that there was an incomplete uninstall.
And, you, 7.02 is ok.
As a summary, there is no reason for going into great pains to remove all components of 7.1.

Apologies to Fulvio for not getting back sooner...have been under the weather for a while.

Fulvio asked: After saying this, why did you think that there was an incomplete uninstall.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Actually, I had said I thought there was an incomplete INSTALL. One reason for this was that I was never able to set 7.1 as my default mail. Mail kept going to 4.8.
Another reason was that the port kept showing up as 956. I'd change it to 110 and next time I opened preferences the 956 was back.
Since I have 4.8, I will delete the Netscape 7.1 tree in Program Files, having already uninstalled 7.1 with Add/Remove Programs.
Thank you for your response.
