7.2 - is there an alert sound?

Postby allen-uk » Fri 23 Mar, 2007 3:30 am

Hello gang.

Running 7.2 on an intel iMac. No real probs, occasionally the program disappears, but rarely.

Just one query: when (for example) the 'Password' dialogue box comes down when you're in the middle of entering a new password for a new site, is it possible to set up an alert sound in Netscape? (Same applies to other times when Netscape chucks up a dialogue box - it would be nice to have a 'boing' or something to tell me it was there).

I've had a glance at the Network preferences, but can't find what I want.

Thanks.

Allen, London.

I'd suggest using SeaMonkey for security reasons. It's pretty much like Netscape, and it is Universal Binary.

Otherwise, you might want to give Safari a try.

Antony: fair enough, but before I look for SeaMonkey and download it, will it answer the question re. alert sounds?

I've just tried Safari and it doesn't seem to offer the option of alert sounds when it drops a dialogue box onto a screen.

So a) does SeaMonkey offer an alert sound option;
b) where would you recommend getting it;
c) how is it superior to Netscape?

Thanks.

Allen.

No, there isn't.

a) I guess there's no alert sound, however I am not sure since I never pay attention to the alert sound.

b) getting the alert sound? No idea.
If you are asking about getting SeaMonkey, http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/

3) In most ways. Netscape 7.2 was released on August 2004. SeaMonkey is almost identical to Netscape 7.2 except it is called SeaMonkey, and does not have built-in Netscape.net mail support.
SeaMonkey comes with modern (if not the latest, but new enough) browser engine, and all the security fixes over those years.

SeaMonkey is all-in-one like Netscape 7.2, it come with Mail and Newsgroup support.
If you just need teh browser, Camino or Safari are my picks, followed by Firefox.

Just worked out it must be around midnight Saturday with you, Antony. It's 4pm Sunday afternoon here, so you've got all that to come.....

Anyway, thank you.

The alert sounds were really for my partner, Maggie, who is not as familiar with the workings of the web as she might be, and when she is in the middle of a web page, happily filling in a form, or whatever, it would have been nice if Netscape could have announced its presence with a bleep or a boing, to save her having to come and find me and ask why she couldn't get any further.....

Ho hum. I'll have a look at SeaMonkey....

Allen.
