7.2 Won't Open Old Attachments on Mac (10.2.8)

Postby NoVaGuy » Sat 04 Sep, 2004 9:31 pm

In Netscape 7.2 (running on a Mac under OS 10.2.8), all my email files from 7.1 seem to have been converted successfully, except that attachments, while apparently there, based on the size of the messages, don't indicate themselves with an icon, either in the list or in the individual message, and so I can't find a way to open them. New test messages containing attachments open inline in the message window. Anyone have any suggestions on this?

Thanks.

(Misc. unhappiness: Google is no longer the default search engine for terms typed into the URL window. Misc. happiness: a folder of message bodies can finally be searched! Hooray!)

Perhaps, you should un-select this:

(Make sure the Mail is the active window, and from [tt]View[/tt] menu, un-select [tt]Display Attachements Inline[/tt].

A good suggestion. Since I wrote, the browser crashed at an ill-behaved web site (had the problem in 7.1 also), and, surprisingly, went through the whole process of rebuilding each mail folder when I reopened the application. This time, it was able to find the attachments and they now show up in the expanded message header. I notice the icon in the message list doesn't indicate there's an attachment until after the particular message is opened once, but then it's there. That's as I recall the migration to 7.1 worked, as well.

Thanks for the help!

I noticed that. Usually I have a column of "Size", and if the individual email size is above 40kb, it usually indicates unwanted attachment (virus).
