8.0.4 edit profiles to stop gremlins

Postby davidherman » Sun 11 Dec, 2005 9:50 am

I am recently having problems accessing certain sites. (The creativecow forums won't load, for example. 2-pop crashes Netscape when more thean one tab open) I moved my profiles folder and restarted and all my little problems are gone. Now, I'd like to reimport into my new profiles folder, my bookmarks and my toolbar layout (all the buttons I had set up, bookmark icons etc) What would I bring back from my "old" profiles in order to do this? Also any idea what settings might have gone haywire in my old profiles?

I had a similar problem with Mozilla. Created a new profile and problem was gone. If all you are going to copy to your new profile are bookmarks and your toolbar layout, there should be no problem. I copied bookmarks, some plug-ins and prefbar and my mail (which you do not have to do) and everything works fine now.

Windows 7, Norton Internet Security, Malwarebytes, Spywareblaster for my desktop and Avast for the laptop, user of Chrome and Firefox 9.01.

I tried the site with both SeaMonkey and Firefox with no problem. Sorry, but I am at a loss as to what causes a problem like this. For examble, my SeaMonkey will not let me navigate to some links at CNET but I can navigate to all the links at CNET with Firefox with no problem. I have no clue why.

David,
the link you give does not crash for me, in the firefox mode. Have you tried to use it in the IE mode? However, there is a list, actually, two usernames whose admission is denied. If you have saved the password, I suggest that you delete the saved password, as well as the relative cookies.
How does it crash? does it shutdown the browser?
You can fix a lot of problems by deleting password, and cookies, and emptying Cache.
As for the question answered by humpd, except for the bookmarks and plugins( which are not in the profile, anyway), I wish he would elaborate.
And, what mail? And, the prefbar. Which version?

the cookies and cache and password made no difference, but, on your advice I tried the ie mode and voila, no crash. The crash, when it happens, is a Netscape has to close message do you want to send ms a message.

I don't know. but I get this, in both Firefox and IE-mode:
Warning: error_log(/usr/www/virtual/uemedia/www.uemforums.com/2pop/ubbthreads/backup/mysqlerrors/20051211_mysql.log): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /usr/www/virtual/uemedia/www.uemforums.com/2pop/ubbthreads/mysql.inc.php on line 207

The only difference is that I see a Flash box in Firefox, and not in the IE-mode. Have you upgraded to Flash 8.0.22? People have been crashing without earlier Flash versions.
