A glitch? In Netscape? IMPOSSIBLE!

Postby MichaelJRich » Wed 06 Apr, 2005 12:28 pm

Howdy!
After 1200 successful logins to our bank, suddenly by beloved Netscape is freezing up (cursor is in the active mode).
Scan Disk always reports trouble with three files generated by the browser:
_CACHE_001_
_CACHE_002_
_CACHE_003_

Everything else is working beautifully (as it always has since the Beta years.)

I'm open to suggestions....

Thanks!
Michael

Michael, everything is possible. Have you been clearing your Cache?
I, probably, messed up my set up having selected the Cache folder to be outside the .slt folder, and, I had some 4 MB in it. Now I changed back to the .slt location. So far, nothing in the Cache.

thanks for the info. yes, I regualry clear the Cache folder.
The files in question from my previous post have zero bytes in them. The cache folder has always been in the .slt folder. I have had VERY few problems with our system over the past 10 years. This one has me stumped.
I look forwrad to more responses to help me figure this one out. I adamently will HATE to click that other browser to check my bank account status! I'd rather be broke!
(think that's too harsh??)

Anyhoo, looking forward...

Now,now, Michael,
there are simpler solutions than giving up your soul!
That's is why I have profiles all over the place. If you are a single profile person, create another, and see what happens. I have a single NS7.2 installation, but my wife and I use, regularly, four profiles.

Ok, no selling of my soul (if you insist)

I'll try the profiles today and get back with the forum tomorrow.

Have to go now to cut off my finger tips as punishment for think in my mind the name of that other browser in a message.....

Bank of Lenawee makes applying for your HomEquiLoan fast and easy, so you can:

• Finance home improvement projects or consolidate bills

• Secure a low, fixed interest rate

• Streamline your monthly payments into one

• Eliminate loan closing costs

• Lower your taxes with interest payment deductions*

What do you think? You are on your own, after that. Are you not even getting that?
I am glad I am able to do this, because only 30 min. ago ago, I did not know if my computer could be used. My CD-ROM got stuck, and, after the usual initial panic, a very long paper clip did the job. I would have never been able to do all the crazy things I did, with a pre-XP OS.
Good luck to you.

Thank god for paper clips! used clips in jams many times and always they have been my hero.

Yep, you got to the site. Funny thing on my system, I can go to any page BUT the main page. That befuddles me to no end. ANY suggestions why now I can't get to the main page? Could it be some kind of adware or spyware or something like that? I swear they changed something. The day the color scheme changed is the day I started having problems. I really don't think anything has changed here, but go figure. I guess it's about time I had a glitch or two.

Thanks much for your time. Great group, this Silly dog 701 thing.

I will take another peak at that page, but I have no idea. But, on the other hand, I have multiple profiles for NS7.2, and also Mozilla1.7.6, and Firefox.
So, if something acts up in one place, it is no big deal.
I did check the site, and there is some difference. There was an Image of an erderly lady with two pies, one in each hand. I was wondering what type of pie, but there is a broken link, i.e. no picture there. Also, I cannot access the Webcast. They probably know that I am not serious, or it may involve a popup.

The pies are cherry.
Yeah, I think it's a popup as well. I guess I'll just use the personal accounts page to access my accounts. Pain in the rump, though.

Other than that, their site is the very best in this area. Great to do business with (even if it is me paying them more than they are paying me....)

Thanks again.

There are some obvious changes in the Home Page. You can't see the image in Mozilla and Firefox as well. And, allowing popups does not help.
As for your original problem, did you ever try to delete everything from the Cache folder. The three files which you mentioned can be rebuilt., although I don't understand their purpose.

I've deleted those three files so many times, I think the Feds are after me! I've set my cache into a different folder, made four different profiles, and still the same. I must agree that it is on their end.

Anyhoo, I can at least get to my account now. If they persist in making it difficult for us Netscapers, I just might have to change banks!

Thanks again.
