a newbie question about updating OS

Postby cav » Fri 06 Jan, 2006 12:27 am

Can I update from OSX 10.2.8 to 10.3.5 or do I need to start with 10.3?
Thanks, CAV.

Thanks, CAV.
It depends on what Mac OS X Panther discs you have. Some later releases would have later versions in it. The first original release would have 10.3, of course. It is recommend that after you install Mac OS X Combined Update 10.3.9, it will update to 10.3.9 for you (including a huge number of security updates).

updating OS

Postby cav » Sat 07 Jan, 2006 12:49 am

My brother has a OSX 10.3.5 DVD that came with his computer and I'm wondering if I could use that to update my OS which is runnning 10.2.8-
Are versions 10.3, 10.3.2, 10.3.3 and 10.3.4 included on the 10.3.5 DVD so i can just install and be at 10.3.5?

The CD or DVD that come with the computer hardware are different to retail packages. Those are Installation Disc, and you might not be able to install it on your Mac.

You don't need to install any earlier versions. And to my knowledge, the Installation Disc won't include earlier version than specified.

Hope this helps.

The DVD that comes with new Macs is tied to the specific Mac, and can't be used on any other. (Try it if you want, you'll see an error right in the beginning of the install, forcing you out)
