Fulvio-

Thanks, I am going to try capt's procedure as soon as possible. It is simple enough.

I will be back after I try it.

BTW, I can not find the feedback button to add to a tool bar as we had in the beta. Does anyone know if it is still around?

Richard,
there is no button. You will have to find your way through Help|Help and Support center, or just press F1. You will see a toolbar, and at the far right, there is Support, and the bottom item is Feedback.
Come to think, I think that I will have to give my feedback. In NS7.2 it was much simpler. Good luck!

Thanks, I had found that. I just think there is a message in that they took it from really quick and easy to deep deep and deeper.

captjlddavis-

Well, I tried what you instructed. Netscape and Firefox closed. I deleted the bookmarks file from Netscape and copied in the bookmarks folder from Firefox which I knw works perfectly and always.

No difference. I even then went out and found two sites I do not have saved, snapfish.com and akc.org, opened them, saved them as a group, closed out Netscape and relaunched it. This new group would not open.

But, and here is something I missed before. If I click on a group a second time, it opens all of the bookmarks in tabs, and then, as long as I leave Netscape open, all groups will open in tabs.

It must be something in my configuration in Tools|Tabbed Browsing. Maybe someone could tell me the right settings, or if possible put a screenshot into a message box. Or, if legal in this forum, I would put in my email address and someone could email me a screen shot of the proper settings in Tools\Tabbed Browsing.

Richard,
I would like to help you, but I don't know if I would be able to even if I could post a screen shot.
You want to do something which is entirely different from what I do.
If I understand correctly you want to use groups, and open the entire group(s) in Tabs. That means that those sites will be open whether you want to have them open or not. Is this what you want? I have been organizing my bookmarks in folders which are accessible from the Personal Toolbar, and I can open any of them whenever I need to. Under normal conditions, I wish to have sites like this and a few other sites open, and I save the group, but this is made up of sites from several other groups. I am very reluctant in keeping some websites open in Tabs, because they will dump their cookies, whether I wish to look at the site. Here in Firefox, I have 14 tabs, and five of them are Netscape related. 6 more are news sites, including my ISP homepage, and a few more which have no business being open, but I don't want to forget about them, but I intend to cut down. I think that understand what you want, but something slips by. Everyone does something in a different way, and it may be difficult to understand exactly what you want.

Some weirdness with NS8.01

Postby Fulvio » Tue 24 May, 2005 1:46 am

It is possible that this website may not interest many of you, but it sure looks strange when view as IE. I thought that something had gone wrong with the site, and when I noticed that it was display as IE, I was puzzled because I never made the change. Switching to view as Firefox,, gave a more familiar view, and then, see how it looks in IE.
The person who develops the site is a Mac person.

Fulvio-

Thanks for your continued interest.

Very simply, Tabbed Browsing, as I understand it, means, if I have several individual web sites' tabs as a group in a folder, labeled "Dog Food", and those several tabs are several different dog food manufacturers, if I click on "Open in Tabs", which is the bottom most click on every group of multiple links, then all of the several sites will open, in tabs, all at the same time, looking like manilla folder tabs. I can then go back and forth from one to another and look for a dog food that I want without having to open anything else. That is how it works-perfectly- in Firefox.

In my case, the tabs I want for doing material searches in my work, are thomasnet.com, google.com, superpages.com, and answers.com. They are in a folder called N.I.S. Search (my company is N.I.S.) I want to click on Open in Tabs and very quickly see five tabs, one for each of my four tabs, and one blank tab which opens as a default. Instead, I see, either two blank tabs, or one blank tab and one of my saved tabs from the group.

If I then click on Open in Tabs a seond time, then all of the tabs open. If I leave Netscape up, then all groups will open properly in tabs. If I shut Netscape down and re-launch it, the whole procedure starts over.

This is not proper. This is not how it works in Firefox.

Let me re-iterate, I really like Netscape 8. This will not dissuade me from using it as my browser. I just think that it should work properly and as "advertised".

richard, I think I am following your situation:

in NS 8.0.1....win xp-home

Using your sites:

thomasnet.com, google.com, superpages.com, and answers.com

I went to each site and opened it in a tab.

I deleted any other tabs leaving only the four site/tabs referenced:

I selected "Bookmark this group of tabs"

In the dialog box I entrered "N.I.S search" for Name.

Create in: = jim_ns8 ( one of my bookmark folders )

checked the "Bookmark all tabs in folder"

Selected "ok"

Opened "manage bookmarks" - selected "jim_ns8" in left panel.

In right panel is desplayed contents of "jim_ns8" folder - at the very bottom is "N.I.S search" folder

I moved ( dragged ) it to the top of the folder ( in the right panel) closed bookmark manager.

TO test things - I closed ALL tabs but one ( silly dog)

Selected "jim_ns8" folder in PersonalToolbar bookmarks - The top entry is "N.I.S search" - select entry - displayes drop down menu - select bottom entry "Open in Tabs"

the four tabs open - for a total of five open tabs. the NEW tab group and the original tab that was open.

In my Options - Tabbed Browsing - top section
Open new tab = far right

bottome section - Open Behavior - Bookmarks = add tabs

and that is what happens -

Also check in about:config - filter on:

browser.tabs.loadFolderAndReplace -

I believe that the default is "true"
if it is set to "true" change it to "false"

Otherwise I am out of ideas....

HTH

In other words not so simple.

fulvio...

entirely to many options and way to confusing to this ol' italian.......

but it does (for me anyway) just what it is supposed to do -

what can I say...... I think that with all the various options/tweaks/and hidden preferences in FF/NSx - it actually turns people off. they just want a bare bones browser and mail client that is secure......

but that is just my humble opinion...and what do I know ?
