I remember that helpsvc.exe was getting very high in CPU use. I don't recall doing anything about it. I have tried, repeatedly (eight times) to install SP3, with no success. The installation rolled over and died, at a certain point. I got less than zero help from Microsoft, so I staying with SP2 to which I have had to roll back, manually (SP3 left a lot of junk behind).

Turning off Help & Support had no affect on the time of Avast updating itself, it still takes between 11 and 24 minutes to update the files, yet it takes only a few seconds to download the updates.

There is a troubleshooting setting to load in Avast after all other services have loaded, but I don't know if that will have any meaningful effect.
