Nope. Try it. Clicking on "Refresh" gives you the new list. Antony's problem was just more complex.

I did try it, in Netscape 7.0, before I posted. No matter how many times I clicked Refresh, I got the same partial list that Antony got.

Ramona's post gave me the idea to try UNchecking "Use Secure Connection" in the server settings, then REchecking it. That seemed to do the trick. Afterwards, clicking on Refresh did download the new list.

This is useful to know, although I have not seen anything even close since 7.1 came out. Maybe it was a 7.0x problem.

Antony was using Thunderbird, not Netscape 7.0.

Using Thunderbird 0.6, here's my testcase:
- open the Thunderbird profile manager, and create a new profile
- you should be prompted to create an account. Create one for secnews. The "create account" wizard for NNTP does not ask about SSL, it just defaults to port 119.
- with non-secure secnews created, open the subscribe window, download the list of groups, and subscribe to netscape.test
- read a couple of message in netscape.test, then close Thunderbird
- Open Thunderbird, and open the secnews subscribe window again to verify the list is still non-secure groups only.
- close the subscribe window, and go to the account settings for secnews.
- check mark SSL. The port should automatically change to 563
- Open the subscribe window for secnews, and click on "Refresh".

Voila! 8-)

Chris,

I know Antony was posting about his brand new Thunderbird install but he also reported having problems with Netscape secnews in the past. Since I don't have Thunderbird I did my test with Netscape 7.0, mainly because I didn't have ANY news accounts set up there (my hubby uses Netscape 7.0)

Funny how my results seemed to match Antony's.

Funny how mine don't; and my setup was more similar.
Weird, wild stuff. :)
