Accidentally Uninstalled Netscape 7.1

Postby rgreenfi4776 » Tue 27 Apr, 2004 12:48 pm

Help, Netscape fans. In the process of (finally) upgrading my computer from WinMe to WinXP, I was asked to uninstall Norton SystemWorks 2001 so it could be replaced with a newer version. Somehow, as I was going through the process, it also unistalled Netscape 7.1. My biggest immediate loss were the many family/professional emails/atch I had moved from the webserver to the hard drive. I thought I had moved the email folders to my D:/ drive, but can't seem to find them now. Is there a way to reverse the loss? I have pretty much shut down the system until I could try to figure something out. Will Windows Restore help at all? Any suggestions/comments will be appreciated.

Windows 2000/Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings/user_name/Application Data/Mozilla/Profiles/profilename/xxxxxxxx.slt

NOTE: These files are hidden by default.
To see hidden files:
1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
2. Click the View tab
3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders

It should give you some idea that you can't do whatever you want. The profile is placed in the above path. Once you have one Mozilla or Netscape profile in the default location, you can have any profile location you like.
I just got a new computer, and I have all the needed files from Win98 backed up on a CD. Then, I set up NS7.1 in XP, as if I started from scratch, and got new profile names. Finally, I copied the needed files. You just can't do move the stuff wholesale. And, this applies to any program.
Don't try to do things the way you think they should work. It does not work that way.

It will most probably do! If no, browse the Sticky section for Lost Profile thread (by Ramona), you will find most of the information inside.

Any luck?
