This report was recently issued on a spyware program - free one too!!! Seems to be good and includes virus scanner too, if required.
I have installed the spyware program and it seems to work well - active cover all the time, not just scan. Details of write-up follow.

Spyware Terminator

I think this is one of the best free downloads I have ever found! The program is called Spyware Terminator and it is a utility that provides full, real time protection against all spyware and adware.

I know there are several different spyware removal programs out there today, but Spyware Terminator is the only one I have found that is free and provides real time protection. Even the ever so popular Ad-Aware software does not protect in real time. This one is even compatible with Windows Vista. Oh yeah! So, as you can see, I highly recommend this program.

You can check it out, read reviews on it and download Spyware Terminator right here.

Note: This is a download from download.com. There are several other ads on the page for other products that are not free, so make sure you just click on the button that looks like this:

No link was provided. This site did not let me create the long link. I would rather delete the entire message, but have not figured out how.
Just do a Search.

Thanks,
I will keep the link, although it may have more than I need. I am afraid that it will clash with my present antivirus, but it seems good as an antispyware.
Adaware2007 is so mixed. I wanted to test it, and when I tried to check if there were updates, it did not do the usual, i.e. telling that it could not connect to the server. It did nothing after telling me that my definitions were not up to date. For some reason, I decided to check some of settings, and, was about to quit, when it told me that the update had been applied. Then, it promptly checked again, and told me that it was up to date. Duh, duh and more duh.

I agree with you entirely re Adaware 2007. I had similar issues.
Re Terminator, you can easily deactivate the antivirus aspect of the program without affecting the operation of the anti spyware. I also deactivated the auto daily scanning feature, preferring to do it at time of choosing.
I like the constant active overview of the pogram, warning when suspect activity can occur. It is a very complete program and is fully controllable by the user.

Thank you for the info. For now, I am going to uninstall Adaware2007, and will try Terminator.

Can you run this Spyware Terminator as an on-demand scanner? I don't want it running with Real Time protection for two reasons: I already have CounterSpy running AND I don't want it using any more of my system's resources as is possible. Thanks.

Yes James. It can be activated or deactivated from the toolbar. Full scan or quick scan available on demand too. I find it hard to fault actually.
Be interesting to hear of comments from others who try it.
It does insert a web crawler toolbar when installing but gives you the option of not doing so during installation. Give that some thought as it is just something else to load each time. It can be disabled each day but loads automatically each time the computer starts. Not sure if I should remove it from the startup procedure - maybe other components may fail to start too. Will experiment as I don't want the toolbar appearing each day - just a nuisance.

Indeed it is a nuisance, and, most interestingly the toolbar remained after I uninstalled ST.
I have not found a way to remove it, although View|Toolbars|Webcrawler take it out of circulation.

Yes, I found I couldn't remove it permanently too so I uninstalled the whole program and re-installed it. During that reinstall process, you are given the option, as you go through the settings, of using/not using the web crawler bar and I chose not to. This has successfully remedied the issue.
