Adding tag line to message

Postby moosie » Wed 21 Dec, 2005 4:31 pm

As I recall, earlier versions of NS provided for a signature line to be added to all e-mail messages. I could find nothing in the 7.2 manual, on-line help or browser search. I refer to such lines as Ramona’s "The mills of the Gods grind slowly, but exceedingly fine." or Profman’s “profman, the mad chemist;….â€

If you want to have any signature, you must open Mail|Edit|Mail and Account Settings (wizard)| select your account name|on the right side look at the lower part, i.e. select identity, and Attach the signature, which you must check. Click on Choose, and you will be given a choice of files to attach. I think that default is My documents. Obviously you will have create a file with whatever you want to show. I use text files.
As far as I know the same set up has been since NS6 (don't quote me on that), but for a long time, as well as other related mail.

Thanks Fulvio,
Unfortunately, that didn't work. I clicked on choose and selected the path and file . When I send a test file, it comes back without the tagline. I have tried using Wordpad and Word both with a text file and it still remains the same w/o the line attached.

All I can tell is what I do. I open My Documents, and right click| Text documents. I, then, open the file, and type in what I want. And I Save As, and give it a name (I have 28 different signatures) as xxxxx.txt.
If I open the document, I can read the contents. I do not even look at the content after I Choose. The Path is: C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\My Documents\Document(1-28).txt
Of course, there is a box next to the line which must be checked, but the box is grayed out, if there is no checkmark.
I don't use any particular program to compose the file.

Hi fulvio,
I thought that was what I did. After Choosing, I have entered in the box, C:\Documents and Settings\User_name\My Documents\Document.rtf
I click open and assume that is all there is to do. Nothing attaches to a message.
I guess that there is nothing else to do so thanks for the quick responses and help.
Have a great and Merry Christmas .

Click on Save
Save to the folder of your choice

Open Netscape
Click on Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings
Highlight the Account Name in the left panel
In the right panel, enable: Attach this signature
Next: Click on the "Choose" tab
Now navigate to the folder where you saved the signature file and select your signature file.

Next: Click on "Compose"
You should see your signature...

What Ramona says is correct, but you were going in the right direction, but by clicking Choose, you should be able to find the location of your document.
I said to Save As to give it a name which you can find. I doubt that the name of the file is really Document.rtf, unless you save it with that name. Never mind what the name is, as long as you have saved it, you highlight it when we are in Choose, and enter.

It worked. Thanks to both Fulvio and Ramona for taking the time to help. This should be fun to use.
