Address Book Management

Postby joeboy » Mon 14 Feb, 2005 7:33 pm

I use Netscape on multiple computers. The prime versions of two different address books resides on two desktops. Periodically I back them (each) up to a floppy and import them into a laptop using 7.2 with WIN2000pro. This raises the following issues:

1. 7.2 doesn't really merge, but rather imports them as additional, searchable, but nonviewable address books, named impab-x.mab in the xxx.slt folder. I can make one of them viewable by deleting abook.mab, then changing the name of one of the imports to abook.mab. How can one merge books?

2. Each import generates an impab-x.mab file. Deleting the redundant versions doesn't delete them; they reappear in empty form each time 7.2's address book window is opened. Also when I look at the address book window, I see a lengthy, duplicative list of all the past imports, most of them empty due to my deletion actions. How can I get rid of this deadweight?

joeboy,

Take a look at:
ADDRESSBOOKS

Couple quick questions:

1.How do you "backup" the addressbooks to floppy ?
2.EXACTLY what is displayed in the left panel in AddressBooks ?
3.What is listed in the profile directory for *.mab files

Please answere by number.

Maybe we can figure out WHAT you have and HOW to get WHAT YOU WANT.
