Adobe AIR 2.0 Released

Postby iJohnE » Fri 16 Jul, 2010 2:05 pm

Not sure of the exact date, but I know it's out.

You can get it from Adobe.com or from updating your client.

Quote from Adobe:

The Adobe® AIR® 2 runtime enables developers to use HTML, JavaScript, Adobe Flash® software, and ActionScript® to build web applications that run as standalone client applications without the constraints of a browser. Adobe AIR and the Adobe Flash Platform unleash the creativity of designers and developers by providing a consistent and flexible development environment for the delivery of applications across devices and platforms. Support for additional platforms, including Android, is under development.

I've upgraded, works nicely.

I still don't know exactly what Adobe AIR is or does.

Adobe Air is a software platform that runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Developers can develop applications that work seamlessly on any operating system. Similar to Java, except it packs many more features. It's mostly used for developing web applications.

The BBC iPlayer Desktop application for (legally) downloading BBC TV programs is built upon Adobe AIR.
Although I usually use the WMV based secondary downloads available on BBC iPlayer instead, as they
use the DRM format that works on the XBox360, whereby the Adobe DRM'd MP4 files do not.
UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.10) Gecko/20100504 SeaMonkey/2.0.5 (like Firefox/3.5.x)
SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!
