adsl SHUTDOWN!

Postby mai » Wed 18 Aug, 2004 4:32 am

Alright ... I'm running Windows 98 SE and my adsl has crashed. Originally, my ISP said it was a fault with Internet Explorer, but I can get onto dial-up alright so I think they are WRONG! This has happened twice in the past week. The first time it happened, the techies couldn't fix it, so I took matters into my own hands and reinstalled the SE only, then repaired the Internet Explorer in Add/Remove Programs. I then pinged 10.1.1.1 in command and got a response, so I went into it and re-entered my username and password and I was connected again. However, it happened again like two days later and I've been stuck on the prob ever since. I've run SE again, repaired IE many a time and pinged 10.1.1.1 and 10.1.1.2 more times than I care to admit ... I've now discovered that I have 4 Trojans (that I know of ... some of the virus protection software does the "not responding" thing after a while) and a few adwares. I've got Dyfuca, Spooner, Agent and one other one which I have conveniently forgotten. It's something to do with being tall or something :S. I've ran all different types of Virus scans like Norton and Spysweeper (for the adware like NTsearch etc) and I just downloaded "The Cleaner" from moosoft.com. I'm also haveing a prob with Norton anti-virus live updates. They don't work although I've d/l it seperately ... TWICE! Any advice anyone can give would be much appreciated. I'm in Yr 12 and I can't afford anything new or remotely new or to waste anymore time running scans on my computer! Thanks!

Get and run ALL of the following .. ALL 6 of them! Each cleans a different type of problem, and although there is some overlap, the only way to be sure, is use ALL OF THEM!

1) A good antivirus program (Norton or Trend for example)
2) Spybot S&D ( http://security.kolla.de/ )
3) Ad-Adaware ( www.lavasoft.de )
4) The Cleaner ( www.moosoft.com )
5) SpywareBlaster ( http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/ )
6) Hijack This! ( http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html )

ALL of them! All but Norton are free and can be found on Google. UPDATE each after installing them!

After you've done what Mandreke said, get Mozilla or Netscape
