again Netscape/AOL screenname probs

Postby localhost » Sun 15 Jun, 2003 8:41 am

Again? Yes again. But before it was more like unable to log into the Netscape mail.

I've noticed over the last couple of months now that it is getting harder and harder to log into the aol screenname service. Currently I can only login if I use a Netscape (7 that would be for me) browser. Using Mozilla, FireBird, Opera or IE won't get me signed in. This happens on more than one machine and on more than one internet connection. It is all tried from the Netherlands.

I wonder if anyone else experiences this problem and if someone has an answer for me. Except from the part of using Netscape. I still prefer Mozilla...

As I can't login to the screenname service, I can't get to my Netscape Mail, Netscape Calendar and 'My Netscape'. And I do like to use the first two.

Netscape Mail, as a mail client, works ok for me. AOL and Netscape Webmail can be set up in Netscape 7.x, only, as a special IMAP account.
If you were able to do it before, then you must know that you must go through your synchronized AIM/NIM (i.e. both IMs should have the same password). You do not have to have IM open when you do this, but you cannot have any browser which does not have it installled. This leaves out all browsers except for Netscape 7.x. And, to make all this more confusing you do not log in using either your AOL or Webmail password. You log in using your IM password.
I have set up my and my wife's AOL accounts with no problem.
Webmail has been , to me a big problem. I can get in the Website, but I cannot connect with Webmail, except for ..... leap years. And, when it does it tend to lock up Netscape.
I am not too sure what you mean by Netscape Mail, or Netscape Calendar since you are indicating that you are using Netscape Webmail. I have heard of people who have had problems getting into the website, but no one ever confirmed this.
I am using Mozilla 1.3.1, now, so I am not going to try the Help/Contents in Netscape 7.x. They are giving a description of what I said above.
I will try to check Webmail, both at the website and by setting up the account in Netscape Mail. And, I will post again if I notice something new.

Thanks so far.

I was referring to webservices offered through the netscape.com website. Those a webmail and a webcalendar. I have never connected to the imap mail netscape offers for it's browser users to directly connect to the mail. To make it as clear as possible, it is all related to the impossibility to log in to the screenname service provided by aol. I even tried aol.co.uk and netscape.co.uk, but these days they also use the general world wide used screenname service.

Extra information perhaps is, that I can connect to this site: long url
And while trying to get all the information I actually get logged in to the screenname service. I think. Just don't get any page after that. It keeps on loading and finally ends as well on another long url.
Both nearly the same. :?

The page you are showing is identical to that which I use. My procedure is as follows: 1. I enter either through http://home.netscape.com or I after clicking on My Netscape I get a generic My Netscape page. Then I log in, and get the page which you describe. I usually save the information.
I tries this from three different profiles and three different programs, with the same results. Since you do not get anything, it does not seem to be a case of having save the incorrect password. I would just get another username, and see if it does anything different.
I don't believe that you should have any problem, logging from Europe. I will have to ask around, and look if I can find a reply.
