Alert Message Appears at Start-up

Postby Hatewa » Sat 05 Oct, 2002 11:15 pm

Recently I installed the short version of 7.0, but retained the 4.8 versions of Messenger and Aim.
When I boot up, this Alert box appears: /c:/ PROGRAM % 20 Files/NETSCAPE/NETSCAPE/chrome/package/Aim/App.xul cannot be found.

Everything else works fine, and I really like the short version, but how can I get rid of that Alert.

Did you uninstall Netscape 7 (full) by the proper way?

Have you checked with your Start Up?

In Netscape 7, go to Edit | Preferences | Instant Messenger
then unselect "start automatically at system start"

You'll probably think this is either funny or stupid, but I got so excited by the idea of the short version, that I forgot to uninstall the full version first. After the download, there was nothing left to uninstall.
Foolish, I know, but it worked perfectly, except for the Alert message.
I don't know what you mean when you say, "Have you checked with your Start Up?"
And IM isn't mentioned under preferences, because it isn't there.

Would it help to uninstall the short version and download it again? Or reinstall the full version, make sure that "start automatically at system start", is unselected, then uninstall it, and reinstall the short version?

I meant the Start Up programmes in your Windows' Start button.

Uninstall is safer, but not necessary.

Yes, make sure that "start automatically at system start", is unselected
then re-install the Netscape 7.0 Streamline (with Mail and Newsgroup) or Navigator 7.0 stand-alone (not called "short" version).

(To clear the registry or profile setting, that's all I can suggest.)

Alert Message appears at Start-up

Postby Hatewa » Sun 06 Oct, 2002 9:17 pm

Antony,
It worked—to uninstall the "stand alone" version of 7.0, re-install the full version, deselect "start automatically at system start", uninstall, then reinstall the "Stand Alone" version, and it got rid of the annoying prolile box as well.
My computer, has never been happier.
Thanks,
Jack

Good to hear that.

I might try to figure out a way to disable that by default in next Streamline builds.

I'm getting this Alert message too! But mine never lets Netscape 7.01 load up. I see the 7.0 banner and all but as soon as it should load up I get this STUPID Box with absolutely NO INFORMATION in it to let me know what is wrong or what I can do to correct it

Below is a image of it

The only version of Netscape I can run is 6.23

I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me on getting 7.01 up and running on Windows XP
