Maybe I'm biased but . . .

England vs France
Rugby World Cup Semi-Final

Telstra Stadium - 16/11/2003 - Kick off @ 20:00

Although I'm not really a fan of Rugby, I've gotta say . . .

COME ON ENGLAND!

I take it there's a reason why the US Rugby team didn't make the semi-finals??? :(

At the Fox Sports World web site, the weekend rugby matches are all listed as quarterfinals.

Since rugby is not all that popular YET in the US, what is it that the winning team gets? A cup of some kind?

Off-topic.

It's the quietest Saturday night in Sydney streets, at least will last until 9:30PM :-)
People were rushing to Central Station to get to Olympic Park this afternoon.

1st half England 14: Australia 5

All Blacks the best-performed team in rugby, statistically

Postby Antony » Sun 23 Nov, 2003 10:59 pm

New Zealand is the best-performed team in Rugby World Cup, statistically.
According to Massey University sports statistician Dr Hugh Morton, New Zealand were the best-performed team in the competition, based on his "adjustive ranking system",

According to his system, a team increases its points if it plays well and decreases its points if it does not.

This differs from the accumulative system, which awards four points for a win but which never goes down if a team fails to win.

Applying this system, using a well-known statistical procedure called multiple regression, to the results of all 48 World Cup matches, puts New Zealand at the top of the table with 112.05 points, Australia second at 104.86, England third on 104.14, followed by France at 93.83 and South Africa on 88.69.
