All cats must be desexed and chipped in WA

Postby Antony » Thu 14 Jul, 2011 9:33 pm

According to this news story, the Cat Bill 2011 will require all domestic cats in Western Australia be sterilised, micro-chipped and registered.

What interests me is this additional information:
Cats are prolific breeders, they can have up to three litters of kittens a year, with up to seven, even eight kittens a litter.

I did not know that a cat can reproduce that many in a year, and my math told me that's almost 100 kittens in 4 years.

Well, the government is working on controlling the number of wild cats, however, the studies from United States of America showed that once the legislation passes, there will be more people dumping their cats.

Having them micro-chipped and registered makes sense. Sterilizing them, is wrong, in my opinion.

Speaking of cats, Precious (my cat) had four (count them, FOUR!) helpings of kitty treats this morning.
