American's suing culture

Postby Antony » Sat 08 Sep, 2012 7:58 am

(I've meant to post this for quite a while, finally, I got the name and date.)

We all know that Don's America is not just well known for its very influential (political) power (on other countries especially), but also the Americans are well known for their suing culture. (Perhaps it's a fast way to get rich.)

In December 2007, a young Australian named Andrew Thistleton was sued in Don's United States of America for throwing a snowball to a female co-worker in a sky resort. (news source)

In a private conversation with Don. Don said that he would throw back 5 snowballs at me if I throw him one.

Well, the case was dismissed at end. I found that American tax payers' funded District Attorney decided to pursue it at first place is beyond my imagination.

Well, this one is not in Don's America, but obviously, people follow the footstep of Don's American suing culture.

In UK, a tourist attraction boss is considering suing the weather forecast (Met Office), because the Met Office's medium-term forecasts is not what he likes.

Anyone who did Applied Mathematics would know that weather forecast based on calculating differential equations requires extremely huge computation power to improve the possibility. However, by the end of the day, it is still only a "possibility/prediction", not something 100% certain.

A tourist attraction boss in the UK says he is considering legal action against the Met Office after "a series of overly pessimistic" forecasts he says are threatening to bring the tourist industry to its knees.

An American woman who did not perform well in her university decided to sue the university over her C+ grade and demanded $1.3 million in damages.

Megan Thode's excuse was that she could have earned $1.3 million had she received better marks. Furthermore, she did not pay the tuition fee for attending the university.

Thankfully, the judge rejected the $1.3 million damage claim.

No wonder millions of non-Americans around the world wish to become Americans like our Don, can sue for literally everything and get rich.

Aside: I did not have Don's American education. However, I was taught that the maximum potential income/profit can be considered as "opportunity cost" in Economics, and that "opportunity cost" is never considered as "damage".
