Another Virtual PC 7 thread

Postby jamoin » Thu 10 Feb, 2005 7:44 pm

Hi, (new to these forums!)

I've ordered a mac mini..should be arriving next week sometime!
It's the 1.42GHz and have upgraded the RAM to 1GB.

I intend on buying V.PC7, but want to know whether midi will work with it..ie i have Sibelius 3 (lets just say - a windows only version), and want to know whether it'll work with V.PV7.

I don't actually use the midi in/out ports on keyboard...but the program needs the playback of midi sound..

If you understand me, please advise me!
Thanks,
J.

That's a good start for running Virtual PC. However, please don't expect the performance would be as nice as running a real Windows.

I haven't tried that, and I haven't seen the report of that particular software.
I've just had a quick check on http://www.sibelius.com/products/sibelius/
There are Mac versions available. Many companies allow customers to convert license from one platform to another.

Couldn't the programme play back MIDI sound to the regular sound card? If so, you should be fine.

You will need to use a USB MIDI converter if you want to use MIDI keyboard.

Without running the risk of being thrown out of the forums..the version of Sib3 i have is not entirely legit..only the windows install file..*ahem*.

Okay. The audio and video performance under Virtual PC won't be as good as running natively...

I would really suggest you try to get a Mac version of equivalent software.

But would it be usable?
If it's gonna be bum-scratchingly slow then i'll consider paying money for legit Sib3..but fairly slow i can deal with...at college it runs ok on a low spec PIII with Windows 2000..
Thanks,
J.

I haven't tried Sibelius 3 in my Virtual PC 7 at all. If you don't need to playback, it should be reasonable.
