Anybody getting vh1.com?

Postby Fulvio » Wed 28 Jul, 2004 9:49 pm

Has anyone been able to get http://www.vh1.com and also play music or watch videos?
I was able to get the internal player to do something, in NS7.1, after installing a plugin which I already had. The player indicates that it is "tuning in, wait a moment", while playing unidentified music. I gave up after 15 min. Then it locked up, tell me about a plugins error. The plugin is not identified, but the message is identical to that of a wrong npmozax.dll file. I have no idea what the thing is looking for.
The plugin file was there, and so it was in moz1.7.1. In 1.7.1 it tells me that I need, of course, the plugin.
To no one's surprise, the plugins is for WMP. And, it plays in IE. According to their specs it should be playing.
Otherwise everything is fine.
Any input from someone who got the beast working?

Hi,
It works in Internet Explorer 5.0 and higher.
Otherwise it does not work except fot the news and other reading items there.
It used to work in Communicator 4.06 and higher.

I know, "And, it plays in IE."
and, I got it to play music in NS7.1, but it doe not tell you what it is playing.
And, this is a case where allowing Popups does not work, although it is possible that I need to allow something other than vh1 for the player to work.
I have not given up.

I've just recently performed a clean install of Windows XP and Netscape 7.1 and VH1.com works great for me. The only glitch for me is when I click on a video, it says that they've detected I don't have the proper WMP 9 plugin. Yet when I click on the link they provide to download the plugin, the embedded WMP player starts immediately and plays the video without problems.

Here's some screenshots:

After I click on a video:

After I click on the download plugin link:

Although you can't see the video in the screenshot, I assure you it played just fine.

Hi,
It is radio vh1 that is the problem.

Ok, but that's also not a problem for me. Once I registered with VH1.com and confirmed my registration through e-mail, I was able to log-in and listen to a station without any problems.

Here's a screenshot:

Even though the link says "Tuning in...please wait a moment", you can see that it's playing.

Note: I have Java Runtime Environment 1.4.2_05 installed.

That is what I said in my original post. so, we agree.
I, also have the same JRE as you have.
And, MTV.com is exactly the same way.
I am not one who goes on and tell that something does not work in Netscape/Mozilla, while it does in IE, blaming the browser. I know full well why there is a difference. Just compare with IE.

Hi,
Vh1 and Mtv are owned my the same company.
Also using eaither player it goes to the same server at radio.soncinet.com
The stations used to be at sonicnet.com with no membership allowed listening.
Try it with Netscape 4.79.

I wonder if they are connect with Yahoo Launch, which tells me to "upgrade" to NS4.7x.
Anyway, I was not even interested in this. I did it just to double check what you(Wellander) said at the Opera forum.
I lose interest in these things in a hurry.

Sorry, I didn't understand your problem at first. Yet you did mention something about a lockup and an error message, which I never received.

Looking at the screenshot of how the window looks in IE, I now understand what you were talking about when you said Netscape was playing "unidentified music". I mistakenly thought it wasn't playing at all for you.

I tried so many different things that I can't remember what caused what, but if the player did not come up, I could not exit. I had to use CAD, and I was getting a plugin error, but no plugin was mentioned. This happened with NS7.1.
