AOL changed GUI for webmail service - again ?

Postby Gregor » Fri 25 May, 2007 5:47 am

I am using my old@netscape.net account daily.
If my braincells are OK than I remember well that yesterday I logged in into AOL UI which has blue color. Today a new popup window shows up with new GUI. Was I redirected to somewhere (to AIM Mail) or to something? They are constantly changing something.

I logged in through standard path with blue design by AOL.
Othervise this new suite has some improvements regarding pop-up windows, message views, contacts, etc. Does anybody else used this interface today ?

What I particularly don't like about the new service is that the famous AOL "You've Got Mail" sound plays whenever I open up AIM Mail now, even though there's no new mail to speak of!

Can anyone seriously fathom the minds at AOL? They take a sinking ship (Netscape) and ensure that it is completely scuttled. Then they dump it. Then they revive it. Now they've opened up AOL mail so that I too can have an account. Lucky me. AND to top it all off... they're about to release Netscape 9 (oh joy). Why? What can they possibly hope to achieve? Their market share has dwindled to a fraction of what it once was... and Netscape users have long since abandoned it for Firefox, SeaMonkey and a few daring souls have made the jump to Opera. Do they honestly think they're going to make much impact? It's almost June now and we were told that a beta was imminent (several weeks ago). It's really quite laughable. To listen to some (no names will be given), it's REALLY something. Of course, these same individuals are on the payroll so what do you expect them to say!

Anyway... back to trying to read the inscrutable minds at AOL.

Don, on the right side of AIM mail logo there is Settings button. On the section New mail disable sound notification for incoming new messages.
