Apple announced new iPod touch during today's "Let's Rock" event. The new sleeker iPod touch (2G, second generation) features a more contoured back and included a built-in speaker and volume control buttons.

The new iPod touch has the same 3.5 inch (89 mm) screen with a glass display, but it is even thinner and sports a tapered, stainless steel back. Integrated volume controls. Standard such as 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi wireless networking, a built-in accelerometer and other advanced sensors from first generation are . Available now in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB models, iPod touch starts at just US$229.

As part of new iPod touch release, Apple also released iPod touch 2.1 software which features the new Genius feature. The new iPod touch also features built-in Nike + iPod support making it an incredible workout companion. The optional Nike + iPod sensor is priced at US$19, and is designed to be used with Nike + shoes.

The new iPod touch is priced at US$229 for 8GB model, US$299 for 16GB model, and US$399 for 32GB model. iPod touch requires a Mac with a USB 2.0 port, Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later and iTunes 8; or a Windows PC with a USB 2.0 port and Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional (Service Pack 2) or later and iTunes 8. Existing iPod touch (1.0 software) users can update to the latest 2.1 software for just $9.95 to add the new Genius feature. iPod touch owners who already have the 2.0 software get the 2.1 software update for free.
