Apple's Invincibility Starting to Show Signs of Cracking

Postby James » Thu 26 Jul, 2012 9:29 am

SAN FRANCISCO - Apple Inc's biggest success has become its biggest risk factor.

The iPhone revolutionized the smartphone industry, driving Apple's expansion into Europe and China and, after just half a decade, yields about half its annual $100 billion US revenue haul.

But the world's most valuable technology company -- which throughout the global recession near-unfailingly smashed Wall Street forecasts -- is beginning to lose its aura of invincibility.

The company has missed Wall Street targets twice in under a year. CEO Tim Cook may now have to worry more about economic and product launch cycles, and the whims of fickle consumers.

I am not worried yet. It's normal to have some up and downs for any company. Perhaps, the Wall Street expectation were a bit too high for Apple.

Apple was once in a near-death position, and to put into simple words, saved by Microsoft's cash injection.

Of course you ALL know that as of a day or two ago, Apple is the largest company in U.S. history by market value.

Indeed. With shares upwards of $500 it's phenomenal. But even the most powerful companies have their time in the sun (i.e. IBM, Microsoft) and then are eclipsed by start-ups. Apple's day in the sun will end at some point.
