DJGM, I will be in London at the beginning of December. Can you tell me where that store will be ( some piece of town map will be very handy...)?

Hello Gregor,

I also live in the United Kingdom so perhaps I might be able to give you some advice...

The London Apple Store will be located in Regent Street which is in the City of Westminster (Central London).

The way most people get around Central London is on The London Underground (also know as The Tube), Regent Street has
its very own Underground Station (most places in Central London do anyway). I'm not sure what line it is on though. If you
visit the The London Underground's website, you will find many useful resources there, such as route planners & etc.
There is also this new feature called TubeGuru, which I think is quite neat.

If you are not planning to go on the train (Underground) then visit StreetMap.co.uk, and search for "Regent Street".
On StreetMap.co.uk, you should find many useful resources including maps. Alternatively or additionally there
is Expedia, this website offers the same sort of resources as StreetMap.co.uk, such as maps, etc . . .

But I think Expedia is more advanced, since it also offers things like Driving Directions. But, you should know
that I don't recommend bringing your car in to Central London. For one thing you won't find any parking and
secondly there is the £5 Congestion Charge (which is soon to be increased to over £6 thanks to the Mayor
of London, Ken Linving$tone  ). If you decide to go by car you can pay the congestion charge online.

Sorry if I rambled on a bit!...

My travel arrangements are sorted and my overnight accomodation has been reserved.
Just a fortnight to go! Here's hoping Apple allow the use of camcorders in their stores!

It's 12:52PM in the UK now, and the queue was started 2 days before the opening.

Macworld UK reports.
The queue has started. A tent and a handful of dedicated Mac users were spotted outside the Apple Store on Regents Street last night at 1am. Two days before the store is set to open to the public.

As for the tent, Apple users don't rough it too much – they leave that to the Windows users of the world. And anyway, it was raining.

The line is likely to grow today as more Mac users from across the UK attending the MacExpo at Islington's Design Centre, are inspired to join the Regent Street party rather than return home.

Whether the (supposedly) more reserved UK will see a queue the length of that experienced in any of the store openings in the US or Japan remains to be seen.

Well, I only just got into the store about 20 minutes ago, after queuing for about three hours!

I've managed to get some video footage of the store on my camcorder, and the results of
that will be put online as soon as I've edited it together and uploaded it to my website.

It was very cold outside, queueing round at least three blocks for ages in central London!
Just as well really, since it's very warm inside this store! So much so, I'm sweating now!

I'll write up a full report, and post it here later.

DJGM, did you buy the lucky bag?
Did you get the free T-shirt?

I've got the free t-shirt, but all the Lucky Bags had sold out by the time I got in the store.
Eitherway, it's most likely that I wouldn't have been able to afford to buy one anyway!

Meanwhile, the t-shirt is still in it's original box. I'll open it when I get home.

Now here's something I wasn't expecting . . . they've put Firefox 1.0 on one of the PowerBook G4's!
