Apple to Make Big Changes

Postby James » Tue 24 Jul, 2012 9:30 am

Apple's new iPhone will drop the wide dock connector used in the company's gadgets for the best part of a decade in favor of a smaller one, a change likely to annoy the Apple faithful but which could be a boon for accessory makers.

Thanks for the heads up.
I would be slightly annoyed, as I will need to get another set of dock cables (or even chargers).

Currently, I have at least 5 Apple iPad 10W USB Power Adapters (the one capable of charging iPads) and some connected directly out of computers in different locations around the house. I charge those devices whenever I feel like to regardless of where I am in the house. After all I only have 3 iPads, 3 iPhones and 2 iPod touches, and they all share the same dock connectors.

I was thinking about getter another two 10W USB Power Adapters for different locations in the house, but since the rumour first heard early this year, I haven't done so.

During the past 10 years, Samsung had approximately 18 different adapter changes while Apple only changed the connecting cable for the first time in the same period. I really don't see the whine on Apple (but not on Samaung's adapters).

The comparison is flawed and silly because we know that essentially everyone other than Apple in the smartphone market have now standardised on Micro USB. I agree that the ridiculous number of connectors Samsung, Nokia etc all used have was crazy - that's why it's such a good thing that Micro USB is now the standard. Why Apple chose to introduce a new proprietary connector (other than for selling overpriced adapters and cables...) instead of adopting the industry standard, is beyond me.

And I fail to recall any complaints on different connectors Nokia and Samsung enjoyed changing over the years. Just changing the connector for the first time in almost 10 years, and the public is extremely unfair to Apple.
