Back Pain

Postby James » Tue 11 Jan, 2011 8:29 am

Both my wife and I are experiencing lower back pain right now after changing out our older pillow top for a standard mattress (so-called "plush" but relatively firm). It's been a month and a half and our adjustment period has just not happened. My question is: should I have gone for a newer-style pillow top or what? The older one was a very thick pillow top that over the years developed ridges and troughs. The new pillow-tops appear to be considerably less padded but nevertheless more so than what we had purchased in the past. As I mentioned, our new mattress is NOT a pillow top... just a standard mattress. We need some advice since we're both losing a lot of sleep.

Well, we recently changed our mattress from a standard one to pillow top one, it was 2010's version, so I assume it is one of those "less padded" ones. It is very comfortable I have to say.

I would suggest (if you are thinking about getting a new one), go to a mattress store and lay on each mattress for a few minutes before you decide. Don't just sit or only use your hand to feel. (If the mattress store does not welcome you to lay on their demo mattress, visit another store.)

Once you get a new mattress, remember to turn it around every two weeks for first few months, and do the proper airing regularly.
