Working on a friends computer - she has win me and Netscape Communicator 4.73. We want to restore the computer but back up her emails and then put them back in after the restore.

Question: How do we do back it up?
Question: After the restore of windows - how do we get the emails back

Also- How do we backup the "favoruite" website list in the browser and restore it.

Btw: I looked for the answer in this forum and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. But it the forum did help me with other things.. I'm hoping for the same kind of help. Anyone out there?

Kronix, have a look in C:\Program Files\Netscape for a User or Users directory, this contains the profiles which contain all the emails, bookmarks, etc. Backup this folder to a CD or whatever, and when the computer has been restored and 4.73 has been reinstalled, just copy that Users directory back to C:\Program Files\Netscape.

Mandrake - thanks for the reply.. Nice forum btw.

Just want to get this straight - I back up the folder you mentioned and then after the restore I copy that folder back to where it was before. Is there any other step or do I just load up N.C and it will see all the old emails etc..? Isn't there another step?

Also does this include the favorite list from the browser (for the websites)?

Also is there a place to get another copy of netscape 4.73? Or should I just get the new verison and will that be able to back up the old stuff I'm going to back up?

Yes, it's that simple. Backup the Users directory and then restore it, it's that easy. Although when you reinstall 4.73 Netscape will create another users directory - delete that. Then copy over your backed up Users directory. The favourite website list is backed up as well, yes. You can get a copy of 4.73 from here. You could easily upgrade to 4.8 and use the same method I described.
