Belkin Wireless G USB Adapter not properly functioning.

I have loaded the drivers in ndiswrapper, and am able to see wireless networks.

However, when I try to join my network, I am able to enter the key, and it says "Requesting network address from 'JohnNet'" and then it disconnects, and the dialog box pops up again, asking for the password, and if I would like to connect.

Any ideas?

Make sure you select the correct setting (WPA, WPA2 etc).

I had the settings correct, I had them set the same as they were on my laptop.

In the end I had to remove the WEP protection from my network, and instead go for WPA-2.

Were you able to successfully connect via WLAN? I've been thinking of purchasing one wireless USB adapter for one of the desktops to see how it is. I've been told that the Linksys wireless adapters are better supported in Linux.

I gave a copy of Mandriva Linux 2009 One to someone who has an older Pentium 3 system with a new Linksys wireless USB adapter. The Linksys worked right out of the gate.

Yes, I was able to connect.
Linksys ones are usually pretty supported, if not you can configure ndiswrapper to use the windows drivers.

Interesting note, with using the ndiswrapper, no matter how close I was the the router, including setting the adapter on top of it, I can only get a 73% signal.

How old is the router?

I had to replace my old router almost a year and a half ago, as it did not send out a strong enough wireless signal for the laptop to receive, even when the laptop was situated right next to the router.

A new router (Linksys Wireless-G, model WRT54G) took care of that problem and the laptop now receives a link signal of 86%, two floors up from where the router is physically located.

I did some reading, and some video watching, this particular problem, always happens in Ubuntu with ndiswrapper and USB adapters.

Then it's possible that the same problem could also occur with any Linux distro, not just Ubuntu.
