Bias Peak le 3.10 probs in 9.2

Postby Dymac » Mon 20 Sep, 2004 4:00 am

I used to run Bias Peak le 3.10 & 3.21 on my old mac (G3 with G4 processor under OS 9.1, less than 600mb mem, 433mHz, 40gig 7200 Barracuda)) after some time I gradually began to run it with a special set of extensions - My Music Set - which pared them down to a minimum.
NOW, I have a new G4, Quicksilver, Digial Audio. Over 600 ram, 733mHz, runs OSX (10.2 Jaguar) and 9.2, 80gig 7200) . The sound card is Midiman Delta 44.
Now I cannot get Bias Peak le 3.10 to record continuously (ie more than one time) without going belly up. I found a nifty piece of software which can save the scratch file and puts a header on it, but that is not a solution. I have tried to turn off extensions but find that there is little I can turn off without it complaining. I have just downloaded the latest driver for the Delta 44 to see if that makes a difference. I have also increase the memory allowence for Peak.
What Peak does: I record my selection, when I press the STOP button it either freezes completely (no mouse), goes into a daze (some mouse but no action) or offers me the words in a window telling me that it has unexpected quit (as if I didn't know that! - At least that annoying woman didn't chirp in as well!!) Sometimes it offers a type 10.
It currently sucessfully records 50/50 or one in two.
Annoying, yes, but I need to get this thing to work as it is holding up my work.
You might say - have I looked at the Midiman site ? To that I would answer - have you ? Talk about hard work, and their forum is not much use - last time I posted was Dec 2003, and I have just got a reply :?

Anyway, thanks for stopping by and looking at my moaning :(

What is Bias Peak?

Bias Peak le is a light version of the recording and editing suit for audio importing of analogue input. It is not a production software - where you import lots of different tracks, it's more the step before that where you record the piece's which will then be imported as AIFF/WAV/SNDII files.
Coupled to that is the sound card, which in my case is the Midiman Delta 44 (which has 4 in and 4 out with a very nice breakout box - which saves you having to grope around the back of the machine  )
This kind of software is critical on time based actions, one thing that was a problem was with Hard drives, the older 5400's used to import a click into the sound file, that's because it was a noisey recalibration of the hard drive. Later 7200 (especially the Barracuda) did not have noisey recalibrations.
Often the screen savers and power saver options have to be suspended as they distract the concentration of the MAC when handling any music based software.
