Bing search replaces Google

Postby Fulvio » Wed 18 May, 2011 11:14 pm

Google has been my default search engine from way back. I, typically, do not replace the two tabs which are my home group, and select File|New Tab. In FF3.6.17 the new Tab is blank, but I see in 4.0.1 that the New Tab has the Bing search, although I removed Bing from my list of search engines. Interestingly, if I do my search in the Search box, the one next to the address box, the search will proceed in Google. Is this New Tab a new feature of 4.x? If I want to remove the Bing feature, and click on remove on the upper left, I get This:
X
Remove the Search Box on New Tabs
This handy search opens each time you open a new browser tab. You can always remove it using your Community Toolbar's Toolbar Options window.
Are you sure you want to remove this option now?

Has anyone seen this? I have nothing against Bing, but I don't like this "feature".

I, just, found out that the Bing feature exist in Firefox 4.0.1 portable, but does not exist in the usual Firefox 4.0.1. I will have to compare the settings, and see if there is any difference in the Options.

That's very interesting. Thanks for pointing out. I still haven't moved to Firefox 4.x yet.

You should be able to change the default search option back to Google.

Regarding Firefox 4, I'm not sure I like the new design of it.

I don't know if you noticed what I said in my reply to myself. The issue is only with Firefox 4.0.1 portable. Not the regular 4.01. And, it is not with the default engine, but, rather with Bing coming up when I select File|New Tab.
All other programs do not enter any URL, when this is done. I want to have blank tab to fill with a URL of my choice.

As long as there is a final version, there is a Portable one.
Actually, there is FF5.0b2 test version, which installs alongside the final version. I may try it to see if messes up things like the the regular one.
