Hi all,

I just installed SM 2.5 about ten days ago and I noticed there's a "Bookmarkbackups" folder in my Profile. Each one has: "Bookmarks-2011-12-3.json (and -4; -5; -6; -7 etc., to today)". Each listing is over 200 KB. And in that folder is my regular "bookmarks.html".

What are the "Bookmarks-2011-" etc.? Is it safe to delete the older ones? I can see this folder growing to GBs as 200KB are added daily.

I, periodically, delete some of the bookmarksbackup files, but, you are incorrect, assuming, that Seamonkey (like Firefox since v.1.5) back up an unlimited number of files. If you have been using Firefox and Seamonkey for long time, you will see that the maximum of ten file which are kept, may be all over the place, and not of consecutive days.

Thanks for the info. However, what about the bookmarks.html from my previous versions of SeaMonkey? Are they still being used?

Also, I added a couple of sites to one of my bookmark folders to see where it showed up and it's in both the .json list and the .html list!

What's going on? Are they both being used???

If you have been using Firefox and Seamonkey for long time, you will see that the maximum of ten file which are kept, may be all over the place, and not of consecutive days.

In SeaMonkey 2.5, I have 11 bookmarks backup .json files, consecutively dated from 2011-12-04 to 2011-12-14 inclusive. It would seem that they aren't limited to just 10 files, as you claim, and should be consecutive. That assumes that the computer was used on consecutive days, of course!

Seamonkey 2.5 is my default program, so I use it daily. And, you are correct. I did see 11 backup file in one of my three profiles of Seamonkey, as well as in one of my Firefox profiles. My Firefox profiles are in use, as each is associated to a different version of the program, but I am using only one Seamonkey version, at this time.
The Seamonkey profile in use has consecutive days' backups. The Firefoxes which are opened daily have some older backups, but I am not opening them daily. None of the profiles had more than 11 files.
I deleted many of the backup files, so I cannot make a definite statement that only 11, and not 10 files would be in the backup folder, but, as I said, Seamonkey uses only one profile, and it is default.

I only have 10 files in the bookmarkbackups folder. I didn't find anything specific to this on the SeaMonkey web site.

This allows for backups of the bookmarks. It has been present since Firefox 3.0.

This works when you are in the Bookmarks Manager. Selecting Tools/Restore will display a list of dates, these are the backup files made each day, so if you lost the bookmarks and need to restore them from a specific date, this will allow for that.
