Boot Problem :(

Postby Andrei » Wed 12 Nov, 2003 5:48 am

Okay here is a little story:
I had Linux and Win 98 installed at one time , i fdisked Linux partition and didn't bother removing Linux booter , now something happened and i have LI message at the boot up and no procedures follow so i can't boot up to windows.
I tried going to dos throgh recovery cd and using fdisk /mdr command but it said that /mdr is invalid parameter.
So now i am stuck , i would appreciate it if someone can help me with this.

Cheers

I'm not sure that you can use a recovery CD, but if you Google for a Windows 98 startup disk, you can boot from that and run the "fdisk /mbr" command and remove LILO and replace it with the standard boot manager for Windows.

If this was a problem I was experiencing, I'd attempt to re-install Windows at this point.
No need to reformat the HDD though. I would do what is referred to by Microsoft as an
"in-place upgrade", which means re-installing Windows over an existing installation.

Just put your Windows CD in your CD drive, restart the PC, and follow the prompts.

Apperantly my windows partition wasnt active , therefore mbr didn't see it. I just made it active using fdisk and it's good now.
